Ramón joined Ramón y Cajal in September 1999. He is currently Lead Partner of the Litigation Practice and works in different practice areas such as Civil Litigation, Commercial, Arbitration and Insolvency.
He specialises in business restructuring processes, advising large companies and financial institutions in pre-insolvency and insolvency proceedings. He manages insolvency proceedings as lawyer of the insolvent company itself as well as of significant creditors who request the defence of their interests in the proceedings. Some of the most recent proceedings in which he has acted are:
- Counsel to Abengoa, S.A., in the company’s insolvency proceedings conducted before the Commercial Court No. 3 of Seville after the company filed for insolvency in 2021.
- Counsel to a leading company of the food industry, in the insolvency proceedings conducted before the Commercial Court of Las Palmas de Gran Canarias.
- Counsel to financial institutions, in the insolvency proceedings of one of the leading companies in the car park sector.
- Counsel to financial institutions in challenges of refinancing agreements. The last important engagement was for challenging the refinancing agreement of a major company in the hotel and housing sector.
- Insolvency proceedings of a major company in the maritime sector, advising one of the main creditors.
He also acts as lawyer before all national courts of arbitration and before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and as arbitrator for the High Council of Chambers of Commerce and in various ad hoc arbitration proceedings.
Since October 2024, he has directed the ICADE-Ramón y Cajal Observatory on Restructuring and Insolvency.
Ramón regularly teaches at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE). At such university he gives classes on the Master’s Degree in Business Law and on the Master’s Degree in Admission to the Bar, teaching the subject of Insolvency Law, and is a member of the evaluation panels.
He is a member of the teaching faculty of the I Master’s Degree in Business Restructuring organised by the Madrid Bar Association.
He also gives classes at other universities such as the Universidad Nebrija and the Universidad de Navarra.
