Rafael Mateu de Ros is Founding Partner of Ramón y Cajal Abogados and specialises in commercial law, corporate governance, national and international tax law, litigation and arbitration, as well as Spanish and international art and cultural property law.
He is a Government Lawyer (Abogado del Estado) currently on leave, having worked for several years at the Spanish Ministry of Finance, where he held the positions of Head of the Central Resources Service, Head of the Technical Cabinet of the Undersecretary and Deputy Director-General.
He later focused on the private sector, being secretary to the board of directors and head of the legal department of various companies, such as Endiasa, Eniepsa and Hispanoil. He was also General Secretary and Secretary of the Board of Directors of Bankinter from 1986 until 2009 and currently holds the position of Independent Director of Bankinter, S.A. and Chairman of the Corporate Governance Committee of Bankinter, S.A.
He is also a director and trustee of other companies and foundations and Legal Adviser to the Board of Directors of Iberdrola, S.A.
He is a full arbitrator of the Civil and Commercial Court of Arbitration (CIMA), the Court of Arbitration of Madrid (CAM) and the Court of Arbitration of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce. He has also acted as ad hoc arbitrator in various national and international arbitration proceedings.
He holds the First Class Distinguished Cross of the Order of St. San Raimundo de Peñafort (Cruz Distinguida de Primera Clase de la Orden de San Raimundo de Peñafort).
Professor of Art Law at the IE Law School and at other academic institutions.
